Types of Sports Bets and How They Work
Types of Sports Bets and How They Work
Sports betting was easier to access, but there is a learning curve for those who
don't really understand how other betting types work. The following details the most
popular betting types, including real-world examples.
Straight Bets
Straight betting is the most common type of sports betting. Sometimes called a
"single bet," straight bets are simply swayed by the outcome of a single game or
event.
Example 1: The Toronto Raptors are playing the Boston Celtics in an NBA game.
You bet Toronto because you think the Raptors will beat Boston.
Example 2: UFC heavyweight champion Francis Nganu is fighting challenger Cyril
Gain. You bet on the champion because you believe Ngano will win the game.
Spread Bets
The best way to think of a spread bet is to do with the margin of victory. Spread betting
involves "giving" or taking a specific number of points/goals/runs. The number reflects the
winning margin determined and expected by the sports book.
Betters choose whether to "accept" the spread (meaning betting on the weak) or to "reduce"
the spread (meaning betting on what they like).
Example: Dallas Cowboys (-5.5) vs Philadelphia Eagles (+5.5). If you think the Cowboys will
win by at least six points, you'll give them 5.5 points. If the Eagles like the chance to win the
game or lose by less than five points, you will take 5.5 points.
Every point spread has a chance of winning, and both teams are more likely to have a -110
chance of winning. As explained in the "How do you stand a chance" section above, it
means that if you want to bet -5.5 for the Cowboys or +5.5 for the Eagles, you have to bet
$110 for a $100 (or $11 for a $10 win).
Parlay Bets
Faray is the combination of two or more straight bets into one bet. Paris is popular because
it opens the door to greater rewards at the expense of less money. (You can think of it as a
lottery version of sports betting.)
The odds attached to each leg, as well as the number of legs (betting), determine how
much the betting person can win. 스포츠토토핫 The bigger the Faray, and the bigger the bet, the greater
the potential profit.
However, flies of any size are difficult to hit and the more legs you add, the more difficult it
increases exponentially. If you miss one leg, Paris is over, in fact, if you go 6-1 to 7-team
Paris, you might as well go 0-7.
Here are two main types of parries:
Same game: Faray consisting of multiple bets in a single game.
Multi-game: A parry made from bets from multiple games. (Note: The legs of a multi-game
parry may not come from the same sport.)
The third type of Faray is called "teaser," which is most popular in football (especially the
NFL). Like Faray, the teaser consists of two or more teams. Key Differences: Teasers can
only include point spread bets, and the betting person can move the point spread in any
direction by a certain point.
Here's an example of a four-team, six-point NFL teaser.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5) vs Cleveland Browns
Miami Dolphins (-2.5) vs New York Jets
Arizona Cardinals (+7.5) vs. Los Angeles Rams
Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) vs Denver Broncos
If you put Steelers, Dolphins, Cardinals, and Raiders in the teaser, you can move the points
by six points. Therefore, the teaser point spread is as follows:
Pittsburgh Steelers (+2.5) vs Cleveland Browns
Miami Dolphins (+3.5) vs New York Jets
Arizona Cardinals (+13.5) vs. Los Angeles Rams
Las Vegas Raiders (+10.5) vs Denver Broncos
The pay for the teaser is much lower than Faray because better people move the point
spread.
Totals Bets
The total bet is quite similar to the point spread. The total betting, also called "over/under
betting," focuses on the final score of a given game rather than on who wins the game.
When betting the total, you're just predicting whether the two teams involved will combine
for less (under) scores than the total (over) scores/goals/points posted by the sports book.
Example: Los Angeles Rams vs Seattle Seahawks matchups total 42.5 If you think the
Rams and Seahawks will collaborate at least 43 points by the end of the game, you'll bet on
an over. If a defensive slugfest that ends with a total of less than 42 points is expected, you
will bet on the underground.
If you're interested in over/under betting, remember this famous saying because it involves
betting money from the total: "It's never under until it's over!" 토토 In other words, as long as the
game is in progress, you can beat the overbet or lose the underbet.
On the other hand, if you bet 42.5 points on the Seahawks-Rams over and score 24-21
points at half-time, there is a winner, so you don't have to sweat in the second half.
Futures Bets
Future betting is another fun way to participate in sports betting. Rather than betting on
games today or this week, future bets are just a bet that will be decided in the future.
For example, there are betting on the winning team of the World Series, betting on the
country to win the soccer World Cup, betting on the golfer to win the Masters tournament
next year, and betting on the winner of the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Future bets tend to offer greater possibilities, and therefore greater potential rewards, than
straight bets. The reason is simple. For example, predicting a Stanley Cup winner at the
start of an NHL campaign is more difficult than choosing which team will win a random
regular-season game.
Important things to remember about future bets: The odds are constantly changing. For
example, just because the Los Angeles Lakers have a +1500 chance of winning an NBA
title on the first day of the season doesn't mean the probability will remain solid for the next
seven months (in fact, they won't).
Injury, trading, sub-expectation (or more) performance can affect how the futures market
develops. That said, the odds you get when you make a bet will never change. In other
words, if you bet the Lakers on +1500, they're a win for your entire season long. If the
Lakers play well and the betting market drops to +400, you've made a great bet. But if the
Lakers struggle and their odds drop to +5000, well... Your bet will be a big problem.
Serious betters in the futures market always find the best value. You should, too. That's why
it's important to do research before putting money in. After all, why would a sports book
have a Lakers on +1500 when another sports book offers a probability of +1800?
Prop Bets
While other markets focus on the final outcome of a game or event, prop bets are related to
individual competitors' performance or even not being displayed on the box score.
One example of a player prop is to bet on Tom Brady's total touchdown pass (1.5 TD or
higher) in the game.
An example of prop betting that has nothing to do with actual action on the field or on the
court would be to predict Toray's color, which is to bully the coach of the Super
Bowl-winning team.
